What do you do when there’s something difficult to say and there’s a threat it might be taken personally?
Bring in the elephant.
The elephant stands for the biggest problem or issue that needs addressing. Using the analogy of the elephant takes away the personal element, making it less confrontational or threatening.
If there is a team problem, make it a game by placing a large paper cut out of an elephant and place it in the centre of the table. Start by identifying what the real problem is and write this down on the paper elephant.
Get your team working on possible solutions and writing these down too.
Discuss and draw up agreements and any solutions, with clear commitments and responsibilities.
This is a great way to overcome problems, difficult issues and get people working together, as well as having fun!
