Stress, its a way of life for most of us these days. We all know it’s not always a bad thing as we need stress at times to get us through those high pressured times when we need to show high performance.

Things go wrong when we are continually under high pressure and we don’t have an outlet for the pressure build up. That’s when we become agitated, forgetful, don’t cope as well as we chould and even become ill. In the long term this type of stress is not good.

This is a technique I discovered a few years ago and it really works – so try it.

Step 1: Start by thinking about what it is that is causing you to feel stressed. Really zero in on it. The reason for doing this is that often we don’t know what is the root cause of our stress is. Really focus in on the issue or issues causing your stress.

Step 2: Close your eyes and breath in deeply through your nose. Breathe slowly and deeply.

Step 3: Now close both hands into tight fists either in front of you or down by your sides, whichever you feel most comfortable with. Focus on your fists and visualise that everything causing your stress is the closed palms of your hands. Really focus on all those stressful issues that you now have in the palms of your hands.

Step 4: Tighten your fists and squeeze harder and harder and tight as you can. Allow all your stress to flow into your tightly squeezed fists. Feel the stress. Tense your body and squeeze your fists tightly and feel the stress. Imagine that all your stress is real, alive, and you are experiencing it in the palms of your hands. It is in your tightly closed fists.

Step 5: Breathe out quickly through your mouth and say the word ‘cancel’. As you open your fists, picture all the stress disappearing out of your hands. Picture it floating away as a dark greay cloud that is going further and further away from you as it disappears into the distance.

Step 6: Allow your body to become fully relaxed and shift your mind to thoughts of being happy, or thoughts of something that would make you feel happy. Feel the stress released from your body. Smile and enjoy this.

Once you get the hand of using this technique, you will see that you have the power to automatically relax your body and mind and neutralise any stress you are feeling in your life on a daily basis.

Stress is something we can’t avoid in our busy lives these days and the best way is to learn how to manage stress so it doesn’t manage us.
