Well are you? I’m sure if you’re a small business owner or in a career that you enjoy that yes, you will be passionate about what you do and how you help people. But … are you REALLY passionate enough?
What am I talking about?
Well, a lot of people I hear are saying they’re very passionate about their products or services and have a wonderful desire to go out and help others. I’m sure that you do too. And I’m certain that you have had to demonstrate commitment and dedication to achieving the qualifications and experience to do what you’re currently doing. That shows how passionate you are about what it is that you do. But is it enough?
NO, it isn’t!
Let me explain. Firstly, yes, you do have to be well qualified and experienced to dedicate yourself to become successful in your chosen field. But you also need a completely different set of skills if you are to become successful in business doing what it is that you love doing. The skill set that people lack is the ability to sell. That’s where people are not passionate enough – because they hate having to sell. Can you relate to that too?
But here’s the thing. If you are REALLY passionate and want to succeed in your chosen field and build a successful business doing what you love then yes, you DO have to become passionate at selling too. Otherwise you won’t be in business for long. You can’t have a business without selling to someone.
Wake up – you have to learn how to sell! And I’m talking about authentic selling which is matching up your products and services to people who really will benefit from them. It’s an educational process taking them through from their not knowing state of what you’re products and services will do for them into a state of clarity in how good it will feel when they finally benefit from your offering. And the ‘value’ element is reciprocal as whatever you price your product or service at, there will be a client who is willing to pay for it – providing you are both congruent in the value of giving and receiving.
But how do you get over not being passionate about selling? You really have to become so passionate about your product or service with such a strong belief in what it will do for others that it overcomes and any doubts or fears in selling it to the right person.
